Our story

It started with a splinter in my toe on a balcony in Aarhus Ø

Here's the story as it unfolded. The pictures accompanying the text are our own, from projects in Isbjerget and Ceresbyen.

The Splinter

One summer day, I was sitting with a few friends on a balcony in Aarhus Ø. In the middle of everything, I felt a sharp pain in my toe. It was a splinter from one of the balcony's wooden planks.

Then I looked down at the floor. The wood was grey, dry, and rough, and it hadn't seen oil in a long time. That's what a board looks like when the oil layer has broken down. The sun has dried out the wood, moisture gets in, and the fibres rise. Those are the ones you get in your foot.

The neighbours

I quoteed to take care of it. I washed the planks, sanded them down, and then oiled the wood. I already knew the process.

The wood went from grey and rough to saturated and smooth. The neighbours asked who had done it, and then I started taking on jobs for them. That led to the next balcony, and the next one after that.

The craftsmanship

That became the way I did it every time, and it's still the way we do it. The order is fixed, and we don't skip a step just because the wood looks fine from above.

The oil is the important part. It keeps the wood fibres down so you don't get splinters, and it makes it harder for algae to take hold. The sun dries out an outdoor wooden deck, which is why it needs oil twice a year. That's the whole reason why we now make regular oiling plans.

The three steps look like this on a balcony in Isbjerget

Washed

Algae and dirt must be removed, and the wood must be completely dry before the sander touches it.

Sanded

We sand down the degraded layer until there is fresh wood underneath.

Oiled

The oil penetrates and keeps the fibres down. Then the wood is saturated again.

The floors

The balconies taught us to read wood, and that practice is the same indoors. A wooden floor wears down, and at some point, there is no more lacquer left to walk on.

We sand the floor down to bare wood and rebuild the surface. Whether it's lacquer, oil, lye, or soap depends on the floor and how you use the room. We agree on this before we start.

Today, floor sanding is the largest part of what we do. Balconies, terraces, kitchen worktops, and dining tables continue alongside.

Today

Today, we are a team of 19 with permanent crews in Aarhus, Copenhagen, and Esbjerg. We sand floors, balconies, terraces, and worktops for private clients and businesses, and we operate nationwide. Our offices are located in Isbjerget on Aarhus Ø and on Gammel Kongevej in Copenhagen.

Together with Andy, I am responsible for planning, quotes, and the quality of the work we complete. It's usually the two of us you'll get on the phone. The price is fixed from the moment you agree, and if you're not satisfied, we'll come back and fix it.

It's the same people every time, and they know what a floor should look like when we leave.

We've been featured in the press. We've collected the articles in one place.
